Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger: AMD’s Lead Is Over

Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger says AMD’s lead in the CPU market is over, and that Intel has made a comeback. This could be a sign of things to come for the GPU market as well.

A new interview with Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has been published by CRN, and it’s a must-read for Intel aficionados looking for reassurance that their firm will return to the top of the CPU market after being surprised by AMD.

Despite AMD’s recent success with its amazing series of Ryzen processors, Gelsinger is sure that Intel will be able to reclaim the processing crown from the red team, even going so far as to declare that the red team’s reign is already “over.” Much of that faith seems to be based on Intel’s forthcoming Alder Lake and Sapphire Rapids processors, which use vastly different designs to achieve supposedly significant performance improvements.

“’Hey, [AMD] is ahead,’ that’s it,” Gelsinger remarked. “We’re back with a clear vision of what it takes to be a leader in every dimension: leadership product, leadership [chip] packaging, leadership process, leadership software, undisputed leadership on critical new workloads like AI, graphics, media, and power-performance, and re-enabling the ecosystem. This is what we will be doing in the next years with strong measures and programs.”

“We won’t disregard [AMD] for the excellent job they’ve done,” Gelsinger said, “but Alder Lake and Sapphire Rapids are over.”

The Intel CEO goes on to say that his firm is still the top in the industry when it comes to products, supply, software assets, and more. Despite Intel’s recent blunders, Gelsinger bragged about the company’s market dominance, which stands at 80%.

Gelsinger said, “We have the finest product.” “We have a market share of 80%. We have the most advanced software assets in the business. With it, we provide the finest assistance to our partners and OEMs. Our channel partners and consumers desire and trust our great brand.”

“Intel has returned. These are the top items in their respective categories. We have the most reliable supply. We have the finest software assets available. The industry’s most prestigious and venerable technological brand.”

This should be a fascinating interview to revisit in a few years.
