Every Pokémon in FireRed is replaced with a new alternative form in this game.

Pidgey, for example, is now a Fridgey of the Ice/Flying kind.

Charmander is a Chopmander of the Fighting type.

Bulbasaur is also Rockasaur, which is… well, you get the idea.

This includes some cool new moves like Freeze Ray and Magmarock, as well as some amusing PokéDex entries.

Pidgey has evolved into a Fighting-type, Hoothoot has evolved into a Steel/Flying-type with a shield, and Houndoom has evolved into a frightening Grass/Dark-type with no eyes.

Other highlights include the Abra line’s transformation into Egyptian gods and Delibird’s transformation into Krampus.

As predicted, you’ll encounter these Pokémon in different locations than you did in the original games. With their new type and mythology, it makes sense.

The regional varieties – and there are a lot of them – are what make Pokémon Another Emerald so appealing.

Another Emerald gave badass Hoennian varieties to Exploud, Sceptile, Crobat, and Mightyena, to name a few (among many others).

Regional versions from legitimate games, such as Galarian Zigzagoon — replete with its whole regional development line – are also included in the game.

Aside from that, the game follows the same tale as vanilla Emerald, with a few welcome additions like reusable TMs and forgettable HMs.

4. AlteRed (Pokémon)

It’s nice to have so many geographical variations.

However, I like hacks that go all out.

Pokémon AlteRed is a FireRed ROM hack with a whooping 411 all-original Alter Form Pokémon, which for all I care are practically regional varieties.

The alterations are often rather dramatic.

Bulbasaur, for example, changes from a Grass-type starting to a Fire-type starter, becoming Burnasaur.

Similarly, Charizard has evolved into a Water-type Sealizard with an entirely different design.

It’s also worth noting that the inventor of this hack is already working on a sequel titled Pokémon VariaBlue. To say the least, I’m ecstatic.

Blazing Emerald is the third Pokémon.

Pokémon Blazing Emerald and Another Emerald are both Emerald-based hacks with the new regional varieties as the major lure.

It’s just that Blazing Emerald does it a little better.

Rather of just adding a slew of regional variations, the game is rebalanced to accommodate them.

There are also other events to obtain Legendaries and other prizes, each with its own set of challenging challenges and fights to solve.

My favorite area has always been Hoenn. As a result, witnessing Hoennian varieties is a dream come true.

Among the varieties in this hack are Hoennian Emolga, which thinks it’s a vampire, and Hoennian Chinchou, which has evolved into a see-through deep-sea monster.

2. Saffron, a Pokémon

The story of Pokémon Saffron takes place in Azira, a biodiverse environment.

As you may have guessed, this refers to Aziran variations.

You’ll also come across Galarian and Alolan varieties in addition to these Aziran types. The Great Migratory, where hundreds of migration paths intersect across Azira, boosts its bio-diversity, explains this in-game.

In fact, you’ll encounter practically every Pokémon published to date, including several from the Isle of Armor DLC for Pokémon Sword & Shield.

Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, and Dynamax/Gigantamax are also supported.

This is a hack on a whole other level. It is definitely a must-try.

1. The Rebirth of Pokémon

Pokémon Insurgence is the way to go if you’re looking for an exceptional game with all-new versions of your favorite critters.

This fan-made game is set in the Torren and Holon areas.

While Torren is the primary one, where the battle against insane cults for power takes place, it is Holon that we are interested in today.

Holon is home to the Delta Pokémon, a new species of darker counterparts of traditional Pokémon with unique kinds and appearances.

Delta Squirtle of the Dark/Fighting type, Delta Charmander of the Ghost/Dragon type, and Delta Bulbasaur of the Fairy/Psychic type are other instances.

This hack also includes new Mega Evolutions, including some that are only available in Delta Pokémon, as well as a slew of new features such as secret bases, character customization, and Challenge Modes like Nuzlocke, Iron Man, and Randomized.

There are enough features to keep you occupied for quite some time.
