The Game Awards are coming up in a few weeks, and presenter Geoff Keighley has shared some details on what to anticipate at the live event. This will be the seventh year of the event. It comes after the enormous virtual event in 2020, which saw viewership quadruple to about 83 million. On December 9, it will be presented at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. When asked why he didn’t keep the all-virtual format, he stated that, as successful as it was, there was a strong desire to return to being in-person to engage with individuals as they accepted their prizes.

‘Oh, that went extremely well last year, why don’t you just do it again and have everyone on Zoom so you don’t have to travel to the in-person event,’ some people have said. We all thought it was fantastic that we did it, but we really missed the enthusiasm of individuals getting their medals in person, as well as the responses and other such things.

While there will be star guest appearances and a full-scale orchestra, he indicated that the games will take center stage.

It’s nice to have celebrities, and it’s great to have music, but I believe that concentrating just on games is critical. There will be a lot of stuff for 2022 and 2023, especially this year, that will show us our type of greatest lineup of global premieres and announcements ever.

Last year, we discovered that, at the end of the day, the games and trailers are what actually drive the event.

There will be between 40 to 50 games on display, including a handful of new games in the double digits. Due to the large number of games, awards will likely take up half of the show’s length, while premieres and announcements will take up the other half. There will also be trailers for movies and television series based on video games. New categories are planned to be introduced in the future, including a “Best Adaptation” category for next year’s program.

When questioned about his intentions for future development and expansion, he offered many perspectives. Although reaching 100 million viewers is a possible, it is not a priority for him since he does not believe the doubling in viewership experienced during the epidemic is sustainable. Furthermore, the program is already broadcast in almost every market across the world. There has been consideration given to how the program will be disseminated. He also claims to be uninterested in NFTs.
