Torrent Takes the Reins, GT Keeps Its Course

The headlines may say ownership change, but the mood inside Gujarat Titans is far from turbulent. Torrent Group now holds the reins after one of the most significant franchise transactions in IPL history, yet the franchise has opted for calm over overhaul. Inside the dressing room, at practice, in the boardroom — it’s business as usual. Shubman Gill remains captain. The same core of decision-makers still steer operations. The ambitions? Unchanged. What this franchise has built in a few short seasons, it intends to nurture further, not tear apart.

“This was a long run process,” says COO Arvinder Singh, speaking about the nearly six-month-long transition from CVC to Torrent. “But there’s been no major shift in direction.” A formal sit-down between Torrent and the franchise’s leadership is still pending — and will happen after the season — but Singh already sees clarity. “We’ll discuss the future once the campaign closes, but honestly, things are running as they should. No chaos, no redrawing the blueprint.” This might seem unusual in sports, where ownership changes often mean churn.

But not here. Because the systems that shaped Gujarat’s rapid rise — a title, a runners-up finish, and another playoff hunt — remain intact. The Titans know what they are doing, and perhaps more importantly, they know why they are doing it.

A Big Stadium and Bigger Expectations

Torrent’s purchase, led by Jinal Mehta, sent ripples through the league. Over 7,500 crore rupees. A controlling 67 percent stake for just north of 5,000 crore. This isn’t just one of the IPL’s largest acquisitions — it is one of its most confident. And with good reason. The Titans play at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad — the largest cricket stadium in the world, with a mind-boggling capacity of 1.3 lakh. It is a showpiece venue. A temple of ambition. But also, a puzzle. Filling it consistently is tough. Delivering a top-tier experience to fans? Even tougher.

Yet, COO Singh speaks with pride. “People say you can’t get a good stadium experience in India. But we invite you to Ahmedabad. Judge for yourself.” The Titans have invested not just in players but in the complete ecosystem — seating, lighting, access, food, branding. They’re not just offering a game. They’re curating an experience. It’s why, Singh says, even 1bet would notice the numbers: packed stands, loyal fans, high retention. The brand is sticky. The franchise means something. And it isn’t by accident.

More Than a Team, A Cultural Flagbearer

For 14 years, Gujarat didn’t have a consistent IPL presence. There was a void. And the Gujarat Titans have filled it, not with marketing, but with meaning. From day one, this team has made an effort to reflect its base — the cities, the language, the people. Singh explains: “It’s not just Gujaratis in India. It’s Gujaratis across the globe. We built GT with identity in mind.”

It’s in the players they back. The values they express. The stadium they’ve turned into a second home for thousands. Singh calls it “out to in,” not “in to out.” That philosophy has worked, and nowhere is that more evident than in the rise of Shubman Gill. Hardik Pandya’s departure could have left a leadership vacuum. Instead, it opened space for evolution. “You can already see the difference between last year and now,” Singh says. “Shubman has grown. He leads with confidence, not noise. He understands the rhythm of the game. And the fans, they’ve embraced him.”

More than just a captain, Gill symbolizes a future. “He’s not going to be restricted to leading only GT,” Singh says. “He’s got bigger things coming.” But that’s the beauty of it. The franchise recognizes his broader arc, and still supports him unconditionally. Because his success, for now, is theirs too.

What Comes Next

No rush. No resets. Gujarat Titans are not running toward reinvention. They are walking with purpose. The leadership is measured. The fanbase is engaged. The new ownership? Curious, not controlling. Torrent is watching, learning, respecting what’s already there.

But don’t mistake this quiet for complacency. The Titans are building. Silently, steadily. Behind the scenes, plans are taking shape. Expansion of fan programs. More grassroots activation. Smarter data use. New regional partnerships. The next phase won’t just be about matches won. It’ll be about what the franchise means. For Gujarat. For the league. For cricket’s future.
