Mirage Realms – Gaming News Games Guide

Mirage Realms is a game that has been in development for over two years, and is set to be released this summer. It’s an action RPG with an emphasis on the player’s ability to create their own unique character.

Mirage Realms is a new game that has been released recently. It is a fantasy-themed action-adventure game with a focus on exploration and combat.

Hello, oh guy. MMORPG - Mirage Realms

r/MMORPG! My name is Liam, and I’m the creator of Mirage Realms, a vintage MMORPG available on Android, Windows, Linux, and OSX. I was contacted about posting a post here, and I must say I was hesitant at first owing to the game’s current state of development, but… I figured that by putting myself out there, you guys would be able to understand what Mirage is and what it aspires to be, as well as the potential.

I’m a self-taught game developer from the United Kingdom, and the game is presently in early access. The goal is to develop something that feels like Tibia’s open world, but with a guild wars 1-style approach to skills and builds. The main advancement mechanism is modeled after Zelda’s dungeon loop (defeat the dungeon, acquire a new item, use it to unlock new sections of the overworld), with a strong emphasis on roguelike elements in the dungeons itself.

I suppose I’m simply trying to combine all of the elements I’ve liked in other fantastic games throughout the years (how original right). When it comes to the appearance and feel of the project, I usually describe it as “Wow on a Gameboy Color.”

So, what exactly are Mirage Realms?

The vastness of the universe

I believe I should describe where the project comes from so that you can grasp what it is and where it is heading. Basically, I began working on Mirage as a side project in the evenings to see if I could get a shared 2d environment to operate on my phone and computer. Cross-platform wasn’t as popular back then as it is today, and I thought it would be great if I could make even a simple multiplayer game operate smoothly across the two. After a half-year, I’m releasing it to the app store as a closed alpha for select pals to test (or so I thought), but I made a mistake and accidentally published the whole thing. So I leave it running for a few hours and come back to see around 5 people online, assuming it’s my buddies, but no, it’s some Brazilian gamers who discovered it on the app store and are chasing down trolls. Well, this blew my head, and I was hooked on working on it from then on.

In Emberton, Emberton, Emberton, Emberton, Emberton, Emb

I never took the game down because I lacked the heart… Instead, I worked on it in the evenings and on weekends when I could fit it in around my work schedule. I’d burn out on occasion and had to take a vacation for weeks (often months!) since combining it with my job responsibilities and attempting to maintain some kind of RL was almost difficult. One thing was certain: when I began the project, I had no clue how much labor it would need, or how foolish it would be to take on such a job as my first! Although I have a solid experience in back-end software development, MMORPGs are a whole other animal!

Loads of treasure

Regardless, the town expanded throughout time, but growth slowed and stopped. I began to take shortcuts and make concessions that moved the game farther away from my vision, and the mood began to deteriorate. To cut a long story short, I felt that now was the time to truly attempt to create anything, so I worked hard for a few years to save enough money to leave my job and really kick this thing’s ass. I established my own business in January and have been basically unburying myself from the mound of technical debt that my bedroom coding placed me in ever since.

That’s great, but What exactly are Mirage Realms?

So, I’ve spent the past 6 months completely rebuilding the engine (the largest upgrade ever went live on Friday!) Right now, if you download and play the game, you’ll find yourself in a huge, seamless open world with plenty of creatures to smack in a vintage 2d environment. There are now four classes to select from, each with its unique set of skills that you may unlock as you go through the game. You may customize your build, treasure includes diablo-style stat randomization, so there’s a lot of variety there, you gain new looks as you level up, and the party system encourages people to explore together.

As you level up, you’ll be able to learn new spells.

As it stands, I’d call the game grindy, in the sense that, although there’s enough to explore and kill, that’s essentially what you’re signing up for right now. Fight the monsters, get experience, loot the items, explore new regions, kill tougher monsters, loot better stuff, and so on. The game opens up to an open-pvp environment at level 25, and you may lose experience and levels if you die in PVP combat, thus diplomacy and war are prominent themes in the realm. In the lack of some of the headline features, you’ll want to make friends and join a guild with a strong reputation early on. The community dynamic is actually doing a lot of the hard work.

The client for the desktop

The client may operate on Android or Windows, and each one is customized for the platform. Although many players migrate to the PC client as they get more immersed in the game, I believe it is fair to state that the Android client is always the priority. More serious gamers prefer the desktop client because I believe it is better for social engagement (especially in player wars). In the end, I believe most people use both; you’ll see mages in pubs using the PC client while chatting, rangers standing next to them crafting arrows while watching Netflix; it’s a mixed bag, which I enjoy.

Work on your statistics.

Defeat gigantic pixelated monsters.

Aside from that, there are gigantic pixely spiders.

In conclusion…

Mirage Realms is currently in early access, but I believe the heart of the game is here, and I’d love for you to come have a look.
